FENÊTRES, UNE VIE
Windows, a life

Windows, a life - still

Short fiction film, video art

Synopsis
Windows, a life (Fenêtres, une vie) is a narrative and conceptual exploration between the audiovisual and reality. The story of the film is completely created in sound: a voice-over is tragically looking back on his break-up. Sitting in his room, in the dark, he tries to forget his past romance through dreaming. But in this process of forgetting, he involuntarily receives fragmented memories of his previous relationship. Meanwhile, in image, two window views show the passing of a normal, gray day in Brussels.

Director's statement
This short film explores the tensions that arise when we experience cinema as a window to the world. The audiovisual medium looks just like reality, like a true representation, but nonetheless it will never completely grasp the world. Film in this sense is always a battle between dream and reality. It danses on this border through form. Fenêtres, une vie creates spaces just as easily as it can take them away again. It lets you dream away to different places, in your own imagination, but also tries to point out the limits of that magic.
Maybe cinema is not a window to the world, but rather a musical score (een (muziek)partituur) for our own imagination and thoughts.
